Manage youth and family ministry for young people, 7th grade through high school
· Relate to youth as individuals
O Be available for one-on-one mentoring opportunities with young people
O Spend time with young people on their “turf” by attending school events that highlight the young people to which you minister
O Create leadership opportunities for young people to use their gifts
O Create opportunities for young people to discern and grow their strengths and gifts
O Create educational opportunities around ministry leadership skill building which could include: worship leadership (music, acolytes, assisting ministers), peer ministry, affinity groups, outreach, etc.
· Create community among youth, families, and interested adults
o Connect with high school students, creating program and opportunities to form relationships, explore faith and build community.
o Oversee training and support opportunities for adult leaders
o Oversee the acquisition of curriculum to support small groups
o Facilitate communication and connections with families of youth
o Maintain a ministry manual for congregational leaders with youth
o Utilize Protect My Ministry protocols as described in our Handbook for Ministries with Youth, Children, and Vulnerable Adults for all volunteers working in youth ministries
o Lead large group faith enrichment which could include learning, service, fun, and worship experiences
o Coordinate the acquisition of curriculum to support the ministry including the recruitment of guest speakers
Oversee Confirmation Ministry
· Plan, Implement and Lead Wednesday night confirmation program for grades 7-10
· Oversee the acquisition of curriculum and materials to support confirmation goals
· Develop age-appropriate mission opportunities as part of curriculum
· Manage Wednesday night meal, including supervising the cook
· Support and train students to participate in Sunday worship
· Help the congregation adapt the confirmation program to post-pandemic church realities, while continuing the goals of the program
Lead Mission Trips
· Coordinate and maintain a mission experience for both middle school and senior high student each summer
· Oversee budgeting and fundraising initiatives
· Oversee the selection and training of adult leaders, including education around appropriate boundaries and safety
· Oversee training and development of student leaders for ministry
· Oversee and lead a Commissioning service and “Thank You” event
Model Faithful, Welcoming, Loving Discipleship
· Supported by pastoral leadership, model Christian living by growing a personal prayer and study life
· With pastoral leadership, develop a personal and professional development plan for continuing growth in your field
· Be a model for Christian living by connecting with national, regional, synodical, and inter-faith youth activities, events and networks
· Establish, maintain and model healthy boundaries
Leadership Development
· With the Faith formation team, recruit, equip and support teams comprised of adults and students that help direct communication, development, learning, mission and events
· Equip and support parents with learning and spiritual growth opportunities
· Develop and support a team of student leaders who help shape the direction of youth ministry at Gloria Dei
· Develop and support a team of adult leaders who support the ministry as they implement brainstorm, plan and implement ministry
