By Scott Karli, President, Congregational Council
These past months have been a whirlwind. Highs and lows. On January 29 we celebrated and dedicated the renewed sanctuary, the culmination of Rise, O Church. The following week we were informed of the resignation of Pastor Javen. We have learned, processed and grieved together, and will continue to do so.
We tended to the business of the church at the March 5 Annual Meeting. Over a hundred members came together to share in a potluck and to reflect on the mission of Gloria Dei. That mission is affirmed and actualized through the manner in which we allocate our financial resources. The 2023 Operating and Capital budgets were approved by congregational vote. We are excited to move forward with a full slate of church programming. Our numerous and varied Outreach programs and relationships continue. And $30,000 was earmarked in the Capital budget for reparations as we seek reconciliation and healing with Native people.
The Congregational Council met for its regular monthly meeting on March 21. We are pleased to welcome Pastor Jennifer Hackbarth as our interim Associate Pastor on April 2. We will be initiating an update of the church directory in 2023. Be on the lookout in the spring for information on that. And we anticipate entering into a congregational dialogue centering on our values and vision as we take steps toward the eventual call of our next Associate Pastor.
The faith within this community is abundant. Your will to share God’s love with the world is apparent through your generosity of spirit and resources, and your wise and gentle response to these trying times. Enjoy the coming of spring as we move through Holy Week and prepare for the Easter season.
