All are invited to take part in a Healing Minnesota Stories tour, coordinated by Gloria Dei’s Racial Justice Committee. The stories will be told on tour of three Dakota sacred sites all within 15 minutes of our church. These sites are part of Bdote or “meeting place of rivers,” a sacred place to our Dakota relatives. The tour is Saturday, Sept. 30, is are presented by the Minnesota Church Center of the Minnesota Council of Churches in an effort to create understanding and healing between Native American and non-Native peoples. This is an opportunity for us to experience the power of Native American healing stories. The tour will be led by Dr. Kelly Sherman-Conroy, an Oglala Lakota friend of Gloria Dei, Lutheran pastor and theologian.
The tour is appropriate for adults and confirmation aged youth. It begins in the Gloria Dei parking lot with an orientation at 12:30 p.m. We will carpool to the three locations. The tour finishes about 5 p.m., returning to the church. The cost is $25 per person with a $50 maximum per family. Payment can be made via Vanco or a check made out to Gloria Dei. Registration deadlines is Sept. 17. We will be outdoors the whole time. Bring a lawn chair, water, sunscreen and bug spray. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and a hat, shoes not sandals.
